Manchester United won the race to sign Joshua Zirkzee in the summer after the likes of AC Milan and Arsenal all registered interest in the striker.

United kickstarted their summer business with the £36.5million purchase of Zirkzee from Bologna after he helped the Italian side reach the Champions League for the first time in their history.

However, the move to England hasn't gone according to plan in the first six months. After scoring on his United debut against Fulham on the opening day of the Premier League season, Zirkzee has failed to find the back of the net.

Since Erik ten Hag has left the club, reports have emerged claiming the Dutchman was not overly sold on the striker. Now, with Ruben Amorim in charge, Zirkzee has an opportunity to live up to the expectations around his signing.

However, reports in Italy are now saying the 23-year-old has asked to leave the club in the January transfer window. Calciomercato previously linked the striker with a return to Italy and they have followed that up by insisting Zirkzee is unhappy at United and is 'seriously considering' leaving.

The report states that Zirkzee has instructed his agent to find him another move in the winter with Juventus a potential destination. Managed by Thiago Motta, who Zirkzee built up a great relationship with at Bologna, the Old Lady are said to be considering their options in attack should Dusan Vlahovic depart.

A move away from Old Trafford for Zirkzee would add more fuel to the fire concerning Viktor Gyokeres. The Sporting CP star is a man in-demand due to his terrific goalscoring record in Portugal, though a potential £63m move isn't expected to be possible until the summer.
