Paddy Pimblett makes incredible Arne Slot Liverpool claim with Jurgen Klopp promise
UFC star Paddy Pimblett left talkSPORT host Jason Cundy 'silenced' after phoning in as a Liverpool supporter. The pair debated the Reds and just how well Arne Slot will do in his maiden campaign following Tuesday's 4-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Xabi Alonso brought his Leverkusen side - who went the entirety of last season unbeaten in domestic football - to Anfield this week, handing Slot another stern test as Liverpool head coach. Again, he passed with flying colours as the home side completed a demolition job on their German opponents.
With the latest round of Champions League fixtures concluded, the Reds are outright leaders of the current league phase so are on track to qualify automatically for the knockout rounds. They also lead the Premier League following last weekend's turn of events, and are through to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a tie against Southampton next.

After Tuesday's game, talkSPORT hosts Cundy and Jamie O'Hara were listening to phone-in calls from Liverpool supporters. The former said: "They’re [Liverpool] starting to annoy me now, they just get results. You know they’re good, but then you come away thinking 4-0? They just spanked Leverkusen 4-0? I think there’s probably more to come from this Liverpool side, that’s what’s worrying me."
Reds fan Tony was on the other end of the line as this was said, though he ended up passing the phone onto his friend, none other than Paddy 'the Baddy' Pimblett.
The hosts were stunned as the local UFC star replied with his view on his club's blistering start to the season, which included his confident claim about what Slot will achieve.
"I did expect this," he admitted, then added: "Before Slot came, I said Jurgen [Klopp] was our generation’s [Bill] Shankly and Arne Slot was going to be our generation’s [Bob] Paisley. He’s going to win more than Jurgen did and I can’t wait to be proved right."
Legendary manager Shankly led the Reds between 1959 and 1974, taking the club from the second division and establishing them as the major force in European football they are today. His team won three First Division titles, four Charity Shields and one UEFA Cup, then it was after the second of his two FA Cup successes he stunned the city with his retirement.
His assistant Paisley was named his successor, and over the next nine years Liverpool won a further 26 honours including six league titles, three European Cups, one UEFA Cup and one UEFA Super Cup.
Pimblett's taking over of the phone-in had led to Cundy quietening down, after which O'Hara quipped: "You’ve [Cundy] gone a bit quiet now haven’t you!"
That prompted the ex-Chelsea defender to reply: "We go back a long way, me and Paddy," to which Pimblett added: "There’s been a few times where I was going to drive all the way down…"
