Scotland are back in Nations League action against Croatia at Hampden on Friday night. But, although the club game has gone on hold for the third international break of the season, the bickering between rivals never halts on the Hotline.

Opposing fans are at each other as usual with Kevin Wark dismissing notions that Philippe Clement’s Rangers can get back at Brendan Rodgers’ high-flying Celtic in the title race. He said: “Yet again the myth that Clement reined Celtic back in rears its pathetic head. Reining Celtic in needs to include taking points from Celtic, which did not happen, not relying on Celtic to drop multiple points against other teams. It’s about as desperate an excuse as the Ross County scoreline and the moral victory at Ibrox when an actual victory could have ended up winning them the league.”

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, doesn’t see any way Clement can secure a league flag for his club and hankers for a past manager who does have a title on his CV to return. He said: “Fans say it each week about the deficiencies of this Rangers side, with some of the poorest players to wear the Light Blue shirt. But it all falls on deaf ears.

"Cheap buys and loans are the board’s idea of progress. With Celtic on an upward spiral and Rangers struggling just to win each week, no money is stuck with a dead in the water board desperate not to lose their own jobs, a manager who refuses to bring on Ianis Hagi and prefers to bring on lesser players. It’s easy to see why many want Steven Gerrard back. He gave long suffering fans what they craved for..a league title. Clement is unlikely to achieve that feat.”

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “It’s comical hearing one of the regular Celtic camp on here pretending they don’t care about Rangers and that Aberdeen are their only challengers now and for years to come. There are several obsessed ones who only talk about Rangers every day and that’s the only result and opposition they really care about.

“Aberdeen are having a good season, but won’t be able to maintain it. Historically, Rangers and Celtic take turns as the leading club in Scotland so it’s just a matter of time until it swings back to Rangers.”

Mark Smith added: “Hotline regular Gordon Ashley bored of slating Rangers has moved onto Aberdeen claiming Celtic are uncatchable, have valuable talent and an avalanche of cash.”

Neil Renton, Leith, had a view on Celtic’s keeper as he said: “I’m not surprised Kasper Schmeichel is so good with his feet. Being the keeper at Celtic means he’ll have a lot of free time to practice while the game takes place in front of him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s also a master at crocheting, playing the saxophone and watching Netflix box sets.”

The debate over events at Rugby Park last weekend involving a section of the Celtic support and Remembrance Sunday continued with a couple of callers having thoughts for the future. One of which, Sandy Greig, from Newfoundland in Canada, said: “I would like to suggest a possible solution. Firstly, do not give Celtic any home fixtures on that day.

"Secondly, have the Celtic support banned from attending the away matches on that particular day. Thirdly, have Celtic financially compensate the home clubs for the lost ticket sale revenue.”

Finally, a message on Scotland ahead of their matches against the Croats and then Poland on Monday night. Ryan Drew, Bellshill, said: “There have been signs in the past couple of matches that the squad is getting to grips with things again and here’s hoping it continues.

“I’m convinced that we are still on the right track with the manager and these two games can give us a great bounce going into the World Cup qualifiers.”
