Elliot Anderson will welcome boyhood club Newcastle United to the City Ground on Sunday as a Nottingham Forest player having settled in seamlessly to his new surroundings. Playmaker Anderson moved to Forest for north of £30m in the summer transfer window as clubs around the Premier League looked to ensure they didn't fall foul of PSR.

So far, it's clear that Anderson's move has been Forest's gain; he has started regularly in the Premier League so far this season, something he wanted to do when he left Tyneside, and has begun producing in the final third recently too, setting up Chris Wood at Leicester and Callum Hudson-Odoi against West Ham.

Forest are rampant at the moment, scoring freely with an enviable attack led by talisman Wood, a figure Anderson has leaned on since moving. The pair are familiar having worked together previously at St James's Park and Anderson has described the Kiwi's form as being akin to Ronaldo.

“It was a good time for a fresh start and I’ve really enjoyed it. Nottingham Forest is a huge club,” Anderson told the Times. “I always quite liked Forest when I was a kid. I spoke to Chris Wood before I came. He’s taken me under his wing. I just wanted to be playing football, that’s what everyone wants to do. I’ve got off to a good start.

“It’s a brilliant set of guys. I don’t think people realise how talented a squad we have here. When I came I thought, ‘This is going to be tough to get in the team'. I can’t really put my finger on why [Forest have started so well] — we have an amazing defence and then we have Chris Wood up front, who’s like Ronaldo at the minute. We’re doing brilliant and I’ve settled really, really well, but you have to stay humble.”

Anderson did face Newcastle in the EFL Cup tie earlier this season, which the Reds lost on penalties, and he'll be playing for a second time against the Magpies with his family in attendance.

“Obviously it will be a bit weird playing them,” he added. “I played them in the cup I went out there with sleeves rolled up and tried to give it a right go but seeing faces you used to be with was strange. My mum and dad will be there, my brothers, and yeah, grandad will come too.”
