Talks will take place between Pep Guardiola, Txiki Begiristain and the Manchester City board to decide how the club approach a pivotal January transfer window.

City decided against making major reinforcements to their squad in the summer, bringing in winger Savinho and pouncing on an opportunity to re-sign Ilkay Gundogan in a quiet off-season. They opted against signing a back-up defensive midfielder, allowing Kalvin Phillips to leave on loan.

Now, amid a seven-game winless run that has seen City drop out of Premier League title contention, crash out of the Carabao Cup and suffer setbacks in the Champions League, attention has turned to January and whether the Blues need to sign any new faces.

City's form has been severely hampered by their ongoing injury crisis, led by Rodri's absence for the season and their struggles to effectively replace him.

Guardiola has said previously that he expects his squad to improve once they are all bad fit, insisting that he simply wants all his players back to solve their losing run.

Ahead of a must-win clash against Nottingham Forest, who could overtake City on Wednesday at the Etihad, Guardiola reiterated that stance, declaring: "With all the squad this season we would be close to the level we reached last season."

And the manager said that City will not rule out making transfers in January if it makes sense, despite their usual reluctance to deal in the winter window.

"We'll talk internally what is the best in January," he confirmed. "It depends on the position and the situation we are in at that moment."
