Pep Guardiola makes Man City intention clear amid 115 charges as transfer message sent
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola faced the media for the first time since he penned his new Etihad contract on Friday afternoon.
The Blues boss has extended his stay for a further two years and explained his decision for doing so along with why the deal wasn't a 12 month contract as many had predicted. He was also asked about the ongoing 115 Premier League charges given he will now be in position when the judgement is made, while a nod to the future examined the evolution of the squad.
It was a busy briefing and here's everything the City chief had to say.

Was the decision really based on the last few weeks and four straight defeats?
"Not just that. I said yesterday, I felt I should stay here because they want me for obvious reasons, for the results. We have known each other for a long time but all my decisions in my life have been like that: what I feel in the moment. If I am not convinced, I wait. Sometimes you need something in yourself to find the moment and that was the reason why. In just two hours, we did it."
Why two years?
For the weather. It's a good question. Mainly I don't want next season in September, October, November to be [about] 'In this last last year of Pep? Will he extend again?'. That was the main reason. I don't want to be in that position. In the end, the contract is there. I would like to stay two more years but I know if the results are good I will not [stay] for two more years. It’s like the players.
"We have legendary players here in the team but if you don't perform our owner, chairman and fans will ask what is going on and you have to change. Everyone is under pressure, me the first. I have the contract but maybe in a month I am not here if the situation is not going well. I think, maybe I am arrogant, but I think we deserve to continue for what we have done in the last years.
"I'm not naive enough to stay.., for the marvellous position in life we are here. I am going to stay because I have a contract or what I have done in the past. I deserve to extend my contract but at the same time we have to do it again and be up there. If not, the club have to find a solution."
You will still be here when the 115 charges verdict is delivered, that is a commitment?
"I said that six months ago. You have my interviews here I say the same, not because I extend my contract. I said six months ago, a year ago when all the clubs accused us of doing something wrong. What happens if we are relegated? I will be here. Next year we will come up from the Conference and come back to the Premier League. I knew it then and I feel it now."
Has everyone come back fit?
"No. Kovacic is injured."
Any injured players returning?
"Some of them [will be back]. John trained good yesterday, Manu trained good yesterday, Nathan is coming back training. We didn’t have central defender but now we have three. Only Ruben is out. Hopefully he is coming back soon. These 10 days some players come back. I don’t know if they are ready to play 90 minutes or play from the beginning, but to see the training sessions and see their faces is a really good boost for us."
How long is Kovacic out for?
"It will be a while. Three weeks to a month. Max Alleyne as well will be injured to go to the national team U21s because they pushed his limits and he came back injured. They should be more in contact with the doctors of the national teams and the doctors from here because if one player goes to the national team not in a perfect condition and trains with the U21s in the morning and in the afternoon with the U20s and then plays two games when not fully fit, it's normal that he is injured. We are going to lose him for three weeks to one month again."
What is your assessment of the four defeats?
"Four defeats. When you are nine years here, there are managers with a long time in one club you live all the scenarios. You are able to lose four games in a row, you are also able to win 4 PLs in a row. The difference is most teams are able to lose four games in different competitions but just one team has won four PLs in a row. Both sides of the coin can happen."
How do you assess the challenge Spurs will pose?
"A tough game. It always is with Ange. You have to break the situation. Rodri is coming back since we could not see him and congratulate him for the Ballon d'Or. Hopefully we can perform well and start"
How good is it to have Rodri back?
"It's nice to see him back. He had surgery in Madrid and stayed out in family for the first steps. In January he will come here to make a recovery but I hear from the doctors it is going well, his mood is nice, it's unique in our club to get this amazing award and share it for our people."
How do you see the evolution of the squad?
"It depends on the performance. These players, my staff will be legendary. These guys have won six Premier Leagues. I would love these players that we have here to stay ten years here but I would have loved to have Vinny Kompany here or David Silva. It depends on performance. You perform well, no injuries, let's go. One more year, two more years while your energy is there but we have 12 players more than 30 years. We have to see what is going on and I want to see for myself first. After, we're going to decide."
