Phil Foden hits back at Man City criticism with clear double response after Liverpool

Phil Foden has reminded everyone of the trophies Manchester City have won over recent years amid the team's current run of results.

Sunday's defeat to Liverpool at Anfield meant they have gone seven matches without a win across all competitions, losing six of those games. As such, they sit fifth in the Premier League table, 11 points behind Arne Slot's side, and trail them by seven points in the Champions League league phase standings.

Being 17th placed in the latter means they are currently on course to be unseeded in the knockout phase play-offs. However, they are only two points adrift of the top eight teams, who will automatically advance to the round of 16.

While back-to-back defeats in Europe have not been terminal to their chances of progressing, that was the case when losing 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup fourth round, which is when the downturn in form began. Over a month later, Foden felt compelled to defend himself and the team through two images shared to his Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon.

The first is a photo of the player posing while holding the PFA Players' Player of the Year award at a ceremony earlier this year. Soon after, Foden also posted a Bleacher Report graphic showing him standing with his hands on his hips inside the Etihad Stadium with five medals around his neck and 14 of the trophies he has won at City on the pitch in front of him.

There are six Premier Leagues, four League Cups, two FA Cups, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup. The posts come a day after Foden shared the following message: "It's been a difficult few weeks, and of course, we're not where we want to be. But we'll work together and keep fighting. We go again on Wednesday."
