Philippe Clement says that it won't be long until Vaclav Cerny is back in a Rangers shirt after picking up an injury for their trip to Aberdeen on Wednesday - but the Belgian has stated that it is a shame for the loan star to miss a game of such 'magnitude'.

Cerny had been on fire for the Light Blues over the past week, with the Czech winger having bagged a delightful brace over FCSB on Thursday evening, before grabbing the decisive winner over St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership just three days later.

However, with a crunch tie in the Granite City against a high-flying Aberdeen side, his goalscoring prowess is needed more than ever if the Gers are to cut the gap between themselves and the top two. His absence will have sparked concern amongst the Ibrox support, with the former Ajax star having bagged three of the club's six most recent goals.

However, ahead of kick-off at Pittodrie, Clement spent time addressing the fears around Cerny by stating that the Wolfsburg loanee would be returning soon - before lamenting his absence for what is a huge clash. He told RangersTV: "Yeah, he has a small injury.

"Nothing very serious, but the medical staff said he was not able to play today. It was not possible. We tried everything to get him fit, but it was a really short time after the last game [vs St Mirren] towards this game. Unluckily it was not possible. He has been very important in the last four games with five goals, but also [with his] effort for the team.

"It's normal - he played with the national team also, he's played a lot of games - so it is normal that they get a niggle in between and they will miss some things. Of course, you don't want it in a game of this magnitude."
