While Liverpool's unexpected title challenge may have faltered in the final weeks of the season, it has still been an impressive campaign at Anfield. And with three games to go, the Reds need just one point to secure a spot in next year's Champions League.

It will of course not be Jürgen Klopp who benefits, with Arne Slot set to replace the German in the Liverpool dugout next season. The competition will be expanded to 36 teams, with a league phase introduced, but no teams will be relishing their trips to Merseyside.

Klopp's last European night at Anfield ultimately ended in disappointment with the 3-0 loss to Atalanta putting a halt to any hopes of reaching the semi-finals. The Italian side will instead take on Marseille in the last four, with the first leg taking place on Thursday night.

Ahead of that clash, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has sounded a warning to Atalanta over what to expect in France. In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, he was asked about how the atmosphere may differ from Anfield.

The Gabon striker said: "Anfield? I can guarantee 200 per cent that the Velodrome atmosphere is exceptional. It is unmatched especially on European nights. It will be like this against Atalanta."

Liverpool has experienced the fiery atmosphere at the Stade Velodrome in the past and Marseille will hope it can lead them into the final. But Aubameyang's comments will raise a few eyebrows on Merseyside.

He was part of the Borussia Dortmund team that was stunned at Anfield in the Europa League 2016. Aubameyang helped his side take a 4-1 aggregate lead before an incredible second-half fightback from the hosts in front of the Kop.

The 34-year-old later joined Arsenal and was beaten comprehensively on each of his four visits to Anfield in the Premier League, without finding the target, including a 4-0 defeat in his last season at the club.

Liverpool.com says: While his comments may be used to simply put some fear into the Atalanta players, Aubameyang should know there really is no place like Anfield. He experienced the Kop at its best when he was part of that Dortmund side in 2016 and he has never actually won a match at the home of Liverpool. The Reds will hope there are more special European nights to come next season and maybe a clash with Marseille, to make the striker eat his words.
