Piers Morgan launches Arsenal rant as he takes aim at Mikel Arteta before Nottingham Forest
Piers Morgan has hit out at Mikel Arteta for failing to sign a "proper striker" in the wake of Arsenal's draw with Chelsea, as Nottingham Forest prepare to face the Gunners after the international break.
Arsenal headed into Sunday's huge derby clash needing a win after ceding ground in the title race over recent weeks. And while Gabriel Martinelli fired them into a second half lead, they left Stamford Bridge with just a point after drawing 1-1.
Arsenal head into the international break nine points behind Liverpool at the Premier League summit - a gap some believe will be too much to bridge in the coming months.
Morgan was quick to express his disappointment on social media after Sunday's match. And he made no secret that he felt the lack of a prolific No.9 was to blame for Arsenal's failure to plunder all three points.
Referencing a late miss by Leandro Trossard, who was eventually flagged offside, Morgan fumed: "Absolute sitter missed at the death. God, we need a proper striker so badly. Why can't Arteta see this??"
Despite dropping more points in the title race, Arteta insisted he was happy with how his team performed post-match. He told Match of the Day: "I am very disappointed but very proud as well with what I have seen from the team again. We did the most difficult one to score the first goal but very disappointed with the way we conceded.
"The standards and our defensive habits were nowhere near. They have quality and if you give them space they are going to punish you.
"The team reacted in a way that was fabulous with the desire to win, show initiative, take risks and be so dominant but we didn't manage to score the [winning] goal.
"They destroy every team that comes here in every way but I thought we were superb. We were very unlucky. We have dominated one of the best teams in Europe but we don't get the results. That is what is missing."
Forest will face Arsenal when the Premier League resumes after the international break, on Saturday, November 23.
