Piers Morgan reveals his recent David Moyes chat with Arsenal in need of West Ham favour

David Moyes can help win Arsenal the title with a result against Man City

Piers Morgan has highlighted two reasons why David Moyes should aid Arsenal by beating Manchester City on the final day of the Premier League season.

Moyes will oversee his last game at West Ham on Sunday after four-and-a-half years with the club. The veteran manager, 61, faces a huge test as his second Hammers stint comes to an end, coming up against league leaders and potential four-time successive champions City away at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal need a huge favour from their London rivals, requiring City to drop points if they are to stand a chance at winning their first league title in 20 years when they face Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

TV host Morgan is among the millions of Gunners supporters hoping for Moyes to cause an upset and aid two of his former captains in Declan Rice and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. The talkTV host recalled chatting with Moyes recently and getting the feeling that the manager is keen to give it a monumental effort on Sunday.

Morgan told talkSPORT: “I randomly bumped into David Moyes the other day. We had a lovely chat and I sense, quite rightly, that he wants to go out with a bang.

“What better bang can he possibly go out with than dismantling City in their backyard and letting Arsenal win the league?

“What better way to say thank you, not just to David Moyes but to Declan Rice, the man who led you to European glory? The man who stood there week after week, holding you up as a team, carrying you on his shoulders.

“What better way than to go to City and win it for Moyesy and win it for Declan. I think all bets are off on Sunday. I hope West Ham attack them and try and nick a goal.”

Arsenal were handed no favours by bitter rivals Tottenham on Tuesday night as Spurs lost 2-0 to City, putting Pep Guardiola’s side in first place with a game left to play. Captain Son Heung-min missed a glorious one-on-one chance to clinch a point for Tottenham, before Erling Haaland’s penalty sealed a two-point advantage for City going into the final day.

Spurs fans were delighted despite the defeat ending their own top four hopes, something which their manager Ange Postecoglou took issue with. And Morgan criticised the supporters for going as far as cheering City’s goals on the night.

He added: “They should have got a point and that’s what disappoints me. If they’d have had the full support of their fans, which is what normal fans in that situation would have done if they were a club who wants to be one of the bigger clubs.

“The atmosphere was dreadful and the players did try hard. If you are one of those players and you’ve got a manager willing you to do everything you can, then you’ve got the fans literally silent and only erupting and chanting when City scored. What message does that send to the players.”
