Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is keeping his fingers crossed that Leeds United gain promotion back to the Premier League. Daniel Farke's men currently occupy the second automatic promotion spot after winning seven of their opening 13 matches this season.

They have suffered just one league defeat - a narrow home loss to Burnley - and trail leaders Sunderland by just three points following an eight-match unbeaten run. Speaking exclusively to Lucky Block, Hasselbaink said: “Everything is looking good for my old club to get back into the Premier League this season.

“Leeds are a club that belongs in the Premier League. I think they’ve been missed (in the Premier League) and I think the Premier League will be a better place with them in it.

“I look at Leeds’ squad, and I like what I see. I think they’ve got a really strong squad, maybe the best in The Championship.

“They’ve got an experienced manager in Daniel Farke who knows what it takes to reach the Premier League, which is helpful because the Championship is such a difficult league and its incredibly demanding.

"They will have learned from what happened to them last year. I hope they can do it. I think they can do it. I’ve got my fingers crossed for them to have a great season.”

The Whites resume their promotion campaign tomorrow night when they visit seventh-placed Millwall. The Lions, managed by Neil Harris, enter the clash on the back of three successive wins.

Attacking full-back Joel Bryan will miss the tussle through suspension after accruing five yellow cards.
