Midfielder Adam Randell is glad of the opportunity for Plymouth Argyle to have a midweek match away to Millwall tomorrow night so they can try to put the crushing 5-0 defeat at Cardiff City on Saturday behind them.

Randell said the Pilgrims would be 'looking to put things right' after 3,200 members of the Green Army made the trip to South Wales and witnessed their team's collapse. Argyle are 19th in the Championship, one position and a point above Millwall, and are expected to have the support of more than 1,000 away fans at The Den.

Reflecting on the drubbing by Cardiff, Randell said: "There was nothing unusual from my point of view that gave us any less confidence going into that game or made us think that was going to happen.

"I'm not sure quite what happened really. It just turned out we didn't perform on the day to the best of our abilities and therefore got punished for it." The 24-year-old added: "It's good we have the opportunity to go and play again, and prove it was just a bit of a one-off bad performance."

Randell had the following message for the fans: "Thank you for your massive support it's really noticed, although there have been a few occasions where we have obviously not performed and let down the travelling Green Army especially.

"They always come no matter what and I'm sure they will follow us again on Wednesday. We are looking to put things right for them and we want to prove we can turn up for them and hopefully pay back all of the effort they put into us."

It is not that long ago that Argyle last played Millwall at The Den. It was their penultimate match of last season when they conceded a late goal in a 1-0 defeat, which left their Championship survival hopes hanging in the balance, although a 1-0 victory over Hull City at Home Park the following weekend saw them to safety.

Randell said: "We know what Millwall do a lot of the time, we know the sort of team they like to be and we know again it's not going to be an easy game.

"We know it's going to be a challenge for us and we are going to have to play to the absolute best of our abilities. We know if we do that then we will definitely come away with a result. We need to make sure we are working hard and we are challenging, and doing absolutely everything we can to a man to make sure we come away with something from this game."

The drubbing by Cardiff has led to Argyle's very poor away form being highlighted even more. It has often been an issue for the club in the past, and it is again now, despite all sorts of different ways of preparing for matches on the road.

Randell said: "I honestly don't think there is anything we do preparation-wise that is setting us up negatively compared to the way we do at home. I don't feel as though it affects me personally but then based on results and performances there maybe is something.

"We just need to keep focusing on what we are trying to do and keep focusing on the positive side of things, and make sure it doesn't become the narrative of 'Ah, we are going to lose again'. We want to make sure that doesn't happen and we can prove to people we can pick up points and win games away from home, as well as at home."

Randell continued: "We will make sure we continue focusing on us as a group and looking at us from the inside, rather than looking at external media and things like that. We will make sure we are all focused on the job at hand and proving people wrong is what we enjoy doing.

"We would obviously be in a much better place if we were picking up the same points away from home as we do at home. That's something we need to work on as a side. When that does click and when that does happen we will be doing so much better and we will be pushing right up the league I'm sure."
