Liverpool will start a new era next season with Arne Slot set to take over from Jürgen Klopp. The Dutchman could have a new set of rules to contend with as the Premier League prepares to make changes for referees.

Slot has confirmed he will replace Klopp in the summer and will take charge of his final match as Feyenoord boss this weekend. The Eredivisie season will end on Sunday at the same time as the Premier League campaign.

Liverpool hosts Wolves at Anfield on what is sure to be an emotional occasion as Klopp bids farewell after nine years at the helm.

And it could well be the final match with the current rules in place, according to the Daily Mail. Two changes are set to be made by the Premier League with how VAR is used, despite a vote next month on potentially scrapping the system.

Wolves made the proposal earlier this week after becoming dismayed at how VAR is used in the top-flight. 14 out of the 20 clubs will need to vote to get rid of VAR and Liverpool is believed to be among those wanting to keep it in place.

It has now been reported that in-stadium communication is set to be introduced, ensuring fans are informed over decisions after they have been made, as at the Women's World Cup last year. It is hoped such a move would improve the match-going experience for supporters but there are doubts over whether it could be implemented in time for next season.

Semi-automated offsides are also set to be introduced in an attempt to reduce the time taken over decisions. A similar system has already proven to be a success in European competitions.

The report also claims clubs are considering suggesting foreign referees should be appointed for Premier League matches to raise standards of officiating. However it is stated that the PGMOL believes the current officials are 'among the best in Europe'.

Liverpool.com says: While there are calls to scrap VAR completely, the best course of action would be to make improvements to the current system. Communicating with supporters over decisions and why they have been made would be a good start. There have been a number of controversial calls over the course of the campaign by some officials and potentially bringing in elite foreign refs would certainly help raise standards.
