PREP TRACK: Oakwood boys wins at Westville Invite

Apr. 18—WESTVILLE — The Oakwood boys track team held off host Westville in the boys' side of the Tiger Invitational on Thursday.

Connor Smith won the 100 (11.16), 200 (22.73) and 400 (52.85) for the Comets, while Thomas Wells won the 1,600 (4:57) and 3,200 (12:39), Lucas Tyas won the 800 (2:11.29), Bryson McDaniel won the triple jump (12.35m) and the 1,600 relay team of Jakob Rupp, Saul Carillo, Jacob Taflinger and Macen Phillips won in 3:49.95 and the 3,200 team of Rupp, Tyas, Ben Darling and Phillips won in 8:52.15.

Tyler Miller won the 300 hurdles (40.73) for the Tigers, while the 400 team of Trent McMasters, Ja'Den Whorrall, Garrett Hatcher and Lincoln Cravens won in 44.24 and the 800 team of Landon Coon, Cravens, Trent Acord and Chaz Alvarez won in 1:38.38.

Jerrius Atkinson won the 110 hurdles (15.21) and Noah Fowler won the high jump (1.85m) for Schlarman Academy, while Hoopeston Area's highest finish was in the discus as Sean Hudson took second at 36.29m

In the girls meet, the Tigers took second again, falling a point shy (123-122) to Blue Ridge. Ella Miller won the 100 (17.48) and 300 hurdles (53.11) for Westville, while Lainey Wichtowski won the shot put (8.73m) and the 800 relay team of Miller, Emma Schluter, Maddy Doggett and Maddison Appl won in 1:56.16 and the 3,200 team of Madison Peaslee, Schluter, Carlee Miller and Gwen Bennett won in 11:11.

Oakwood was third with Nikita Taylor winning the 400 (1:04.10) and the long jump (4.67m) and the 400 team of Taylor Smoot, Riley Denhalter, Leanne Snow and Taylor winning in 54.61, while Hoopeston Area took fourth with wins by Hunter Haggan in the 1,600 (6:26.46) and 3,200 (13:38) and Vivian Walsh in the long jump (4.67m).
