Liverpool could be about to receive a major setback in its pursuit of Napoli sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia following reports that Paris Saint-Germain is prepared to launch an almighty $220million double raid on the Serie A club this summer.

The Reds were first linked with a move for the 23-year-old last year following his remarkable debut season for Napoli in 2022-23, helping the Italian outfit win its first league title for 33 years with 14 goals and 17 assists in 34 games. Now, following an impressive Euro 2024 with tournament debutant minnows Georgia, Liverpool's interest has been piqued once more.

Kvaratskhelia signed a five-year deal with Napoli upon his arrival in July 2022 but there are growing reports that the Italians are keen for him to sign on renewed terms in order to keep him at the club. The Georgian is currently valued at $87million (£67million/€80million) on Transfermarkt, although it's thought a much higher fee will be demanded for his services.

Despite this, Liverpool remains strongly linked with the player, although any hopes of a move could be diminished if PSG decide to blow them out the water with its deep pockets. According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, the Ligue 1 champion has made a huge bid to sign both Kvaratskhelia and his teammate Victor Osimhen this summer.

It's claimed the French outfit has pledged $217m (£168m/€200m) to the cause, in the hope its outrageous finances can turn Napoli's head in its favor. New boss Antonio Conte is determined to keep Kvaratskhelia at the club and Napoli is unlikely to allow both its star players to leave at the same time.

Kvaratskhelia's agent has even hinted that his client will be signing a new contract in order to stay at Napoli, with it widely assumed that he will not be leaving the club this summer. Mamuka Jugeli did concede, however, that everything depends on club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Jugeli said: "Kvaratskhelia without the Champions League? Then he wants to win the Scudetto. For the future everything depends on the president of Napoli. If he thinks of selling Kvara, he will do. If he wants the renewal, he will renew."

With Kylian Mbappe leaving PSG for Real Madrid this summer, the French outfit is keen to do their very best to replace the massive hole the 25-year-old has left. With the club also set to save a fortune in wages following the Frenchman's departure, it has a very strong hand to play in its bid to sign Kvaratskhelia.

For Liverpool, this spells bad news - even if new boss Arne Slot may have '$194m' to spend this summer under the proposed new financial fair play rules. The Reds, however, has been told they would need to break their current transfer record to bring Kvaratskhelia on board this summer.
