Ranking Super League coaches including Hull KR and Hull FC ahead of 2025
Super League head coaches are plotting ahead of their respective clubs' 2025 campaigns, with some on the crest of a wave and others in testing circumstances in need of improvement. Here is a ranking of the 12 coaches, taking into consideration whether or not they have substantial proven Super League head coaching experience and, if so, how they have performed.
12 Luke Robinson (Huddersfield Giants)
Inherited a tough job with an underachieving club and still has to build head coach experience and prove himself.
11 Paul Wellens (St Helens)
St Helens playing legend endured a lot of criticism in 2024 and the club's lowest finish since 1994 as they came sixth.
10 Danny McGuire (Castleford Tigers)
Former Leeds Rhinos star earned his job with time as assistant, but unknown as a head coach aside from interim work.
9 Daryl Powell (Wakefield Trinity)
Experienced coach has been rebuilding his career with Wakefield's promotion after a troubled stint at Warrington Wolves.
8 John Cartwright (Hull FC)
Vastly experienced as a high-level NRL assistant, and led Gold Coast Titans, but unproven in Super League coaching.
7 Brad Arthur (Leeds Rhinos)
Long stint in charge of Parramatta Eels included NRL Grand Final then inherited a side that fell short of the play-offs.
6 Steve McNamara (Catalans Dragons)
Suffered a disappointing 2024 but has credit in the bank after leading club to Grand Finals and Challenge Cup Final win.
5 Sam Burgess (Warrington Wolves)
Reviving a troubled Warrington to finish third and reach play-off semis in his first year makes him a modern coach on the up.
4 Paul Rowley (Salford Red Devils)
Repeatedly has his Salford team punching above their weight in the table and does so with an entertaining brand of rugby.
3 Willie Peters (Hull Kingston Rovers)
Turned bottom-half Hull KR into a top-four team in his first year in charge - then reached Grand Final in his second.
2 Adrian Lam (Leigh Leopards)
Promotion with Leigh, a Challenge Cup Final win and play-off appearances have followed his stint in charge at Wigan.
1 Matt Peet (Wigan Warriors)
Wigan boss led team to 2024 quadruple, winning World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup, League Leaders' Shield and Grand Final.
