Rayan Cherki continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window - but there's fresh interest from elsewhere. The 21-year-old has reportedly been subject of an approach from the Reds, according to reports in France.

After a fine start to the season and five goal contributions in 11 appearances, Liverpool are reported to have 'intensified contacts' for the attacker in recent weeks. However, a new report by RMC Sport, claims he is wanted by the Italy national team.

Born in France, Cherki is currently representing France under-21s though the Italy team are believed to have recently contacted the player's entourage. This comes after France under-21s 2-2 draw with Italy last week.

Cherki is eligible to represent Italy internationally due to his grandfather, though with dual French-Algerian nationality, he is also being followed by Algeria. Yet to make a senior debut for the French national team, they are thought to be 'following his progress closely.'

He has played for France's under-16, u19 and u21s and is regarded as a very promising player in Ligue 1. Liverpool have been impressed by his form this season and could be handed a boost in their pursuit with Lyon now at threat of relegation at the hands of the French authorities.

That has left the club with no choice but to rapidly produce revenue. Foot Mercato claim the French outfit have set their minimum price at €30m (£24.9m) but would hope to land closer to the upper end of their range, which is €35m (£29.1m).

"We lost €15m from his sale last summer… but his value is now way higher," Lyon president John Textor has recently stated. "He should stay in January but it’s up to Rayan, he decides what he wants to do."
