Reasons behind Man City's poor form suggested following shock Tottenham defeat
Manchester City are currently experiencing unprecedented times in the Pep Guardiola era, following their shock 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham this weekend.
The defeat saw the City boss lose five fixtures in a row for the first time in his illustrious managerial career and inflicted a first home defeat since November 2022.
Saturday’s result could have big implications for the Premier League title race, with a win for closest rivals Liverpool at Southampton on Sunday having the potential to take them eight points clear at the top.

But what are the main reasons for City’s downturn in form?
There is of course the missing link of star man and new Ballon d’Or winner Rodri in midfield, who is confirmed to miss the remainder of the season through injury.
Out of form stars like Erling Haaland and Phil Foden are also potential reasons, as well as a lack of squad depth, which has been seen in Rodri’s absence.
The January transfer window is a little over a month away and City were quiet in the summer when it came to incomings - do they need to think about strengthening when the window opens?
Guardiola put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at the Etihad Stadium prior to the Spurs defeat, putting an end to speculation over his future with the club.
And looking ahead, what will be the key priority for the City boss going forward? Should he opt for a full-scale rebuild going into the start of next season?
