Reece James injury update as Chelsea star faces anxious wait over latest hamstring problem
Reece James will have a scan on his latest hamstring injury next week, football.london understands.
The 24-year-old suffered another problem with his hamstring earlier in the week during a training session. Enzo Maresca confirmed on Thursday afternoon that James will not take any part in Saturday's Premier League trip to Leicester City but the head coach was hopeful the injury would not be another long-term setback for his captain.
Speaking at Cobham in his pre-match press conference, Maresca said: "We have just one injured player, that is Reece. He felt something and we don't want to take any risks for the weekend. He is the only one that is not available for this weekend.

"Hamstring. It's a muscular problem. We don't want to take any risks for this weekend and hopefully it's not something long."
James has had a torrid last few seasons on the injury front. Last term, he missed a total of 38 matches in all competitions. He hurt his hamstring in August 2023 and then not long after returning he felt pain again and decided to have surgery on the long-term problem.
However, James picked up another hamstring injury earlier this season, meaning he was sidelined for 11 matches. He then featured in the last four Premier League games and even completed 90 minutes in two of them.
The latest setback, though, comes as another big one for James - his ninth separate injury since the start of the 2022/23 season. The right-back, who came through the academy system at Chelsea, will learn the severity of his problem next week when he undergoes a scan.
