A referee is due to take charge of a match involving Watford for the first time in more than a year when they bid to move back into the play-off places tonight.

The EFL website has stated that Leigh Doughty has been appointed as the man in the middle for the trip to the Championship’s basement side Hull City.

The last time Doughty officiated in a game involving the Hornets was the 2-2 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion in September 2023.

The official has taken charge of a of 12 league and cup fixtures so far this season, issuing a total of 51 yellow cards and no reds.

Two of those matches have featured the Tigers – the 4-1 home win against Cardiff City in September and a 1-1 draw at Plymouth Argyle the previous month.

Ian Cooper and Darren Williams are due to be the assistant referees for the 7.45pm kick-off at the MKM Stadium, with Bobby Madley on fourth official duties.

Tom Cleverley's men go into the game seventh in the table following last night's results but a win will take them above Middlesbrough.
