Remembering Hull KR clashes with lower league clubs as Challenge Cup draw heads for East Yorkshire
Hull Kingston Rovers will face lower-league opposition away when they enter the Challenge Cup in the third round, as part of its new format - after clubs have battled beyond the opening two rounds which will be drawn locally. East Yorkshire will be the host of the draws for the first and second rounds, broadcast live via BBC Sport on Monday December 2, with Goole Vikings having been confirmed as the venue for that.
Hull KR's pre-season opponents for the Amsterdam Challenge, Championship club York Knights, have been given permission to play their Challenge Cup second round tie later than other clubs as they face Rovers on Saturday January 25. That January weekend is when the other games are due to take place in the Cup's second round, as Championship and League One clubs enter. February 8-9 is when the third round is scheduled with Super League clubs entering then.
With the early-rounds draw venue confirmed, here is a look back at memorable recent occasions - for good and bad reasons - when Hull KR, in Super League, faced lower-league opposition in the Challenge Cup:

Hull KR 50 Batley Bulldogs 0 (2023)
Hull KR's road to Wembley began when Willie Peters' men produced a dominant performance while professionally nilling their opposition Batley. There was a hat-trick of tries from Ethan Ryan, plus braces from captain Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Kane Linnett. A blistering start by the Robins meant that the visitors endured a tough night.
Hull KR 22 Oldham 36 (2016)
Having reached the 2015 final, Rovers were then stunned in a Cup shock in 2016, during a season that ended in them being dramatically relegated from Super League. Part-timers Oldham were struggling in the second tier after promotion, but still took a 24-6 lead into half-time and the damage was too much to repair for the Robins, who gave a shocking display.
York 22 Hull KR 64 (2011)
The late Jordan Cox made his Hull KR debut in this match, at the age of 18, and scored two tries. Peter Fox also went over for two Rovers tries away against the club where he started his career, and Michael Dobson collected 24 points for himself, as Justin Morgan's men made hay. The Robins had a 42-6 lead by half-time against the Championship club, who fielded 10 players from Hull.
Workington 12 Hull KR 68 (2008)
A long-distance trip to Derwent Park ended in nine different try scorers crossing for 12 Hull KR tries including doubles for Ben Cockayne, Daniel Fitzhenry and Jon Steel - plus a strong goal-kicking performance from man of the match Paul Cooke. The demolition job on the National League Two side came despite being without Michael Vella, Clint Newton and Ben Galea in the forwards.
