Reo Hatate's Celtic red card letoff sees Kris Boyd explode as Rangers hero riffs on 'impossible' VAR call
Raging Kris Boyd insists Reo Hatate should have seen red after a lunge by the Celtic midfielder in the victory over Kilmarnock.
Brendan Rodgers' side were cruising at Rugby Park after goals from Callum McGregor and Nicolas Kuhn put them on the path to victory and return to the Scottish Premiership summit. But with the Hoops closing in on victory the Japan international flew into a tackle on Killie star Liam Donnelly.
Hatate appeared to catch the midfielder high on his leg as he gave referee Nick Walsh a decision to make - with the man in the middle opting to dish out a yellow card. There would be a lengthy delay as Don Robertson in the VAR room out the flashpoint in focus - before refusing to send whistler Walsh to review the incident at the pitchside monitor.
On Sky Sports commentary duties, Chris Sutton felt the player had received a let off. He said: "He does catch him on his shin. I think he will see red here. He'll say he didn't intend to do that. Was there the force? If you see where he catches him on the shin he might count himself lucky, Reo Hatate."
And after the full-time whistle Rangers' hero Kris Boyd unleashed on the officials over the call. He said: 'It's a red card all day long. You can't catch a player that far up the leg and say sorry. It's just below the knee. It's impossible not to be sent off there. So the referee gets it wrong on the pitch and Don Robertson gets it wrong in the VAR room."
He then went on to take a swipe at the Hoops adding: "See if that was against Celtic, they would be going off their head. There will be nothing said tonight. That is a red card all day long."
