'We respect them' - Matt Bloomfield full of praise for Peterborough United

Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has praised Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson ahead of Saturday’s clash at Adams Park.

The two have faced each other on three occasions, with both men achieving one win each.

Wanderers’ victory was in the 5-2 thumping over the Posh in February, whilst Boro’s was in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley in April.

That ended in a 2-1 win for the Cambridgeshire-based team.

The other encounter finished 2-2 at London Road 12 months ago.

Speaking ahead of the Saturday lunchtime clash, Bloomfield said: “Darren has done a brilliant job .

“All of his teams have been attacking with possession, they score goals, and they are fantastic to watch.

“I’ve also known Darren for a number of years.

“When I first went to Colchester, I leaned on him for a bit of advice, and he was kind enough to give me his time.

“We know their strengths, but we need to back ours going into Saturday.

“Both clubs are having an evolution in terms of personnel and we know the threats they hold and we respect them.

“We hope for an entertaining game.”

Wycombe go into the contest seven places higher than the Posh, with the Chairboys sitting in fifth, compared to Peterborough’s current position of 12th.

However, both teams know how to score goals, with 40 being registered in the last 10 matches between the two teams.

This includes 14 last season.

Bloomfield added: “We have to keep going and be relentless in our pursuit of improvement.

“In many ways, the 2-2 draw away from home was one of our best over the course of the season, and in each of those three games, they were three very good footballing games between two good teams.

“But we’re keen with what we’re doing and we want to bring that in on Saturday.

“We’re still evolving as a team and as a club, so we’re trying to do things with our identity.”

The match will kick-off at 12.30pm.
