Swansea City head coach Luke Williams has hailed the arrival of Cyrus Christie after the former Hull City defender rejoined his former club on a short-term deal until the end of the campaign.

The 32-year-old defender penned a deal until the season in South Wales, having been training with the Swans for the past few weeks in a bid to prove his fitness.

Christie played 56 times in the Black and Amber of City before being released at the end of last season, following the Tigers’ failure to get into the top six under former boss Liam Rosenior.

City’s former right-back got his first taste of matchday action on Saturday, with Christie named on the bench in the 2-1 win at Oxford United, the Tigers’ opponents on Tuesday night at the Kassam Stadium. He was brought on for the final seven minutes, and former Notts County chief Williams has expressed his delight at seeing off interest from Derby County and Rangers.

"He is experienced at the level. He is a powerful athlete he can defend and he can attack, so I am really happy," Williams said after the 32-year-old signed his deal. "He is an excellent defender, who has the ability and athleticism to join in on the attacking side of the game without any problem.

"He also has the ability to play in a number of positions which gives us further options within the squad.

"We struggle a little bit with Championship experience and he gives us a physicality that we don’t have a huge amount of without the likes of Ben Cabango and Harry Darling."
