New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has already dropped a major hint about his first potential transfer at Old Trafford. The 39-year-old head coach officially started his work at Carrington this week after leaving Sporting top of the Liga Portugal.

While much of the talk has centred around Viktor Gyokeres filling United's goal scoring void, there's another Sporting star who Amorim singled out in his final pre-match press conference. The Reds have previously been linked with Sporting winger Pedro Goncalves (Pote), who has four goals and three assists in eight league games so far this season and Amorim believes he can play for any side in the world.

Speaking to Record in his final Sporting pre-match press conference, Amorim said: "Pote? He can play for any team in the world and with any player because he is a great player. I could take him anywhere.

"He's very funny, which improves our relationship but he is also very intelligent. However, he also has to focus on Sporting because we have to be champions this year, but also as a Sporting coach, I say he could play for any team in the world."

The Sporting star has a reported asking price of £67million and though Amorim has ruled out a move for Sporting players in January, MailOnline claim Goncalves is a potential target for United next summer.

"I won't [sign Sporting players] in January, that's what I said," Amorim added. "I don't know about the summer.

"The first point is to hold on until the summer. Sporting players are very good players, I don't know, we'll see. I know the phenomenon of football especially in England, and I know how things change.

"I can talk about [Mikel] Arteta, [Ange] Postecoglou, how things went well, how they went badly. What will dictate is how the first game goes, with a win or not. Then we'll see."
