Ruben Amorim cleared to repeat Erik ten Hag Man United transfer strategy despite £240m fear
Ruben Amorim is the new head coach of Manchester United less than a week after Erik ten Hag's tenure at the club came to an end.
United confirmed the appointment of the 39-year-old at Friday lunchtime after days of negotiations. Amorim has signed a two-and-a-half yea-contract at Old Trafford and will officially begin work on November 11 before taking charge of his first game against Ipswich Town on November 24.
Amorim's stock has been high for the last two years after masterminding a first league title at Sporting CP for 19 years. He guided the Portuguese giants to another league title last season, which led to him being linked to the West Ham and Liverpool jobs.

When he eventually starts his work at Carrington, Amorim has a number of big tasks ahead of him after a poor start to the 2024/25 season. United are currently 14th in the Premier League table on 11 points after managing just three wins.
They find themselves seven points behind the top four places and could fall further behind with defeat to Chelsea on Sunday. The January transfer window and next summer will be opportunities for the new United boss to build his own squad.
Under Ten Hag, United allowed the Dutchman to bring in his own players with Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Andre Onana, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui - who cost over £240m altogether - perfect examples. The strategy to allow the head coach a key voice in transfer decision-making is one that has somewhat backfired, something that isn't expected to be as prominent with Amorim.
However, The Manchester Evening News' recent poll on Amorim, which asked fans questions about the new head coach, shows that supporters are more than happy to trust the Portuguese in the market.
In total, 61% of supporters voted that United must trust Amorim's judgement in the transfer window. That figure comes after Viktor Gyokeres, who has scored 59 times in 65 games for Sporting, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Unlike when Ten Hag came in, United now have a well-constructed team off-the-field after Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada and Dan Ashworth all arrived in the last 10 months. Want to have your say? Take part in our Amorim poll below.
