Ruben Amorim could open door for £83m move in first Manchester United transfer
Ruben Amorim's first signing as Manchester United manager could be a player he knows very well.
United are looking to appoint Amorim as the replacement for Erik ten Hag. The Reds confirmed the departure of Ten Hag earlier in the day less than 24 hours after the club's 2-1 defeat to West Ham in the Premier League.
The Manchester Evening News understands Amorim has agreed in principle to become the next United manager. A compensation is now being negotiated by the clubs.
Should Amorim take over, speculation will immediately centre on potential transfer targets ahead of the January transfer window. It will also likely lead to rumours that Amorim could bring some of his set-to-be former Sporting players to United.

Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move away from Sporting in recent years, with Arsenal reportedly interested last summer and January earlier this year.
Gyokeres scored 43 goals in 50 appearances for Sporting last season and already has 14 in as many games this term for the Portuguese club. The striker, who signed for Sporting in 2023 from Coventry City, is reported to have a €100million (£83.4million) release clause in his contract.
United may find it a challenge to pay such a fee for Gyokeres without first raising funds by sanctioning the exits of some players at Old Trafford. If that were to happen either in January or next summer, it would not be a surprise to see Amorim seek a reunion with Gyokeres at some point in 2025 as a priority when it comes to incoming deals.
