Ruben Amorim to Manchester United latest as fee agreed and start date 'set'
Manchester United had a breakthrough in negotiations with Sporting Clube de Portugal after agreeing a compensation package for Ruben Amorim's services.
The Manchester Evening News revealed on Wednesday that both parties had agreed a fee to appoint Amorim. Talks remain ongoing however, as United are now working on a deal to bring his first-team coaches to Old Trafford.
Carlos Fernandes, 29, and Adelio Candido, 28, followed Amorim from Braga to Sporting in 2020 and they have been crucial in his success at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. For now, Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in charge on an interim basis and is likely to be in the dugout of United's crunch Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

Fee agreed
On Wednesday, the Manchester Evening News reported a fee had been agreed to appoint Amorim as the new United manager. The Portuguese is understood to have a £8.3million (€10m) release clause in his contract.
However, talks are said to be ongoing as the clubs now work on a deal to bring his Sporting first-team coaches to Old Trafford. Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that Sporting president Frederico Varandas has raised his financial demands and has asked for a further £4.1m on top of Amorim's release clause fee to terminate his assistants' contracts.
Sir Dave Brailsford update
Following United's 5-2 League Cup win over Leicester City on Wednesday night, the Ineos sporting chief posed for selfies with fans outside of the stadium. One supporter recorded this pre-match gesture and posted the footage onto social media.
In the clip, Brailsford can be heard saying 'yeah, done'. Those standing by claimed this utterance was in relation to Amorim’s scheduled arrival.
When Amorim might take charge
As it stands, it's uncertain when Amorim will take over from Van Nistelrooy at the Theatre of Dreams. Speaking post-match, Van Nistelrooy said: "For now the focus is on Chelsea on Sunday and I do not really look any further."
Reports in Portugal have stated Amorim is expected to remain in charge of Sporting until the November international break which starts on the 11th. With that said, the 39-year-old would oversee the Lions' next three games against Estrela da Amadora (Friday), Manchester City (November 3) and Braga (November 10) before completing his move to United during the international break.
Amorim's latest words
On Tuesday, after Sporting's 3-1 League Cup win over Nacional, the Portuguese coach admitted: "In this moment, I have nothing to say and everything that I say will cause more noise.
"There's nothing concrete to say right now, but when I have to speak about the subject, I will. When I have something concrete to say and not just something that will fuel speculation, I will.
"I've always been clear about my decisions and the decision is mine as the statement stated. When I am sure of everything, everything will be easier because to say something now, is not the best action to take."
