New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim looks set for a major Kobbie Mainoo boost. The midfielder has not featured since the goalless draw against Aston Villa in early October due to injury having also left the previous weekend's 3-0 defeat to Tottenham just before half time.

In his absence, Erik ten Hag was forced to deploy two of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen or new signing Manuel Ugarte. However, all three have struggled at points and thus interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will be hoping to welcome Mainoo back for this weekend's Premier League clash at home to Leicester this Sunday

The United legend is unbeaten during his two games in charge with a 5-2 Carabao Cup victory over the weekends' opponents coming three days before the draw against Chelsea. The injury list at Carrington continues to be lengthy with Mainoo joined by Mason Mount, Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw among others.

Mount has recently returned to training with Yoro spotted back out on the grass after recovering from a fractured foot suffered in pre-season. As for Mainoo, no clear indication has been provided on his potential return since Ten Hag admitted he could miss a few weeks ahead of the game against Brentford back on Saturday, October 19.

With that in mind, a return appears on the horizon for the 19-year-old, though a major announcement suggests it is not imminent. On Thursday, Lee Carsley's final England squad as interim head coach was confirmed with Mainoo not included.

Given he has not featured in four weeks and missed the last set of international games as a result, it is perhaps no surprise he has been omitted. However, his absence will certainly come as a boost for United and in particular Amorim ahead of his first game against Ipswich Town.

With the club's new boss set to arrive officially on Monday, November 11, Mainoo will have two weeks to take on board his ideas and understand the huge change in tactics, assuming he is fit to train. With Ugarte having worked under Amorim at Sporting CP, it's fair to assume he will play a big role under the Portuguese.
