Ruben Amorim told his big issues at Man Utd with Arne Slot and Liverpool comparison

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has warned incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim he may need to completely overhaul his team in a stark contrast to Arne Slot’s job at Anfield.

Amorim will officially take over at Old Trafford during the upcoming international break, having been announced as Erik ten Hag’s successor on Friday. The Sporting CP boss begins his new job on November 11 before his first game in charge against Ipswich on November 24.

He’s certainly been left quite the job by his predecessor – United currently lies 13th in the Premier League table, having won just three of their 10 games so far, and they already lie 13 points off leaders Liverpool.

Looking ahead to Amorim’s arrival at United, Redknapp compared United’s predicament to the one faced by Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp was appointed back in 2015. The German transformed the Reds’ fortunes, and has now left a team for Slot that looks capable of challenging for the league title once again.

“Liverpool suffered for so long without winning the title and this is similar to what is happening at Manchester United,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “When you saw Klopp's team from when he started to what it was after two or three years, it developed very quickly.

“They were great in their recruitment with Alisson, Van Dijk, Salah and players who could change the game. Liverpool was patient and got good people in and that is why it has been easier for Arne Slot.

“He has a team that was already there with a style of play, an understanding and a good culture at the club. That has probably made it easier for him, but he has made it look easy.

“But Amorim coming in will be questioning so many things. 'Why has this group of players seen off so many managers? Why have they been so poor at times? What can I do to change the mindset and philosophy?'

"That is just to make them competitive. They get outrun in so many games and he has to change that.

“Amorim needs a couple of years at least. If you look at that team today, I am not sure there are going to be many still here in a few years’ time in the starting 11. There has to be a quick turnover.”

Liverpool.com says: It is incredible that a club that throws so much money at transfers every summer is being told it needs to overhaul its team – again. Amorim is a very good manager – he wouldn’t have been in the running for Liverpool if he wasn’t – but he has so much work to get through if he’s to turn United into a team that can challenge for the top four, never mind a side that challenges for the title.
