Ruben Amorim can unleash partnership Manchester United have sorely missed this season
When Ruben Amorim takes charge of Manchester United for the first time at Ipswich Town next Sunday, he is expected to introduce a new formation.
His famed 3-4-3 setup has won him trophies in Portugal and he has already hinted that he does not plan to move away from his philosophy at United - a criticism that was levelled at his predecessor Erik ten Hag.
As such, the wing-back role is a hugely important cog in the Amorim system and his arrival could well coincide with the much needed return of England international left-back Luke Shaw.
Shaw has proven success playing as a wing-back for England, excelling in the role at international level leading to him scoring in the EURO 2020 final at Wembley.

The 29-year-old has not featured for United since a 2-1 win away at Luton Town on February 18 and they have had to cope without a recognised left-back since that day with Tyrell Malacia also missing through injury.
However, Shaw's back in training and his comeback could come beyond the international break. It would be perfect timing for Amorim with Shaw a natural fit for the left-wing-back role.
It could also bring the best out of Marcus Rashford who has struggled to reproduce his brilliant form of the 2022/23 campaign across the last 18 months.
Rashford fired in 30 goals and 11 assists in a season where United finished third in the Premier League and reached both domestic cup finals, but he has since only managed 12 goals and 11 assists in a more extended period of time.
His drop in form has cost him his place in the England squad and one of Amorim's biggest tasks is to try and get the 27-year-old firing at his best again.
With a new manager at both club and international level, Rashford's motivation will be renewed and rekindling his partnership with Shaw should help too.
It is no coincidence that Rashford's drop in form has largely coincided with Shaw's absence down the left-hand side and the absence of any natural left-back playing alongside him for that matter.
Yes, Rashford's role in Amorim's 3-4-3 setup will be different and more inverted than in Ten Hag's 4-3-3 system but their relationship down the left-hand side will still be important.
If, and it's a big if, Shaw can stay fit, it could be crucial for not only Rashford's success, but Amorim's start at United too. If he can unleash the pair down the left-hand side this month, it will be a major boost to his chances during the early stages of his tenure.
