Ruben Selles will be under no illusions after watching Hull City's latest defeat
There was to be no dramatic response from Hull City to new manager Ruben Selles watching from the stands as the Tigers were beaten for the sixth game in a row.
A 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers and the manner of it summed up City's dismal season. The Tigers were 1-0 down for 80 minutes to a team that hadn't had a shot on goal, and it left them bottom of the table.
Selles will start properly on Monday when he takes his first training session and he knows he'll have to hit the ground running with a home game against Watford to come on Wednesday evening, because City's desperation is growing by the game.

First impressions
Selles would have seen a team badly lacking in confidence, and cutting edge. City are now bottom of the Championship and literally, the only way is up for them from here. There will have been moments of promise in what he witnessed, a team capable of dominating the ball and carving out chances, but one incapable of putting them away.
You never felt like City would score more than the odd goal here, for all their play and openings, and that's a problem as it has been in all but three games this season, and why they're bottom of the league.
Though Blackburn didn't have a shot on target for 80 minutes, City still found themselves a goal down and once again, the lack of luck on their side was apparent. A Rovers cross ricochet's off Sean McLoughlin and into the net. That's how it's gone this season, and Selles will hope for a major turnaround.
Lack of goals
After 19 games, City are the lowest scorers in the division and that, along with their lack of clean sheets, is why they are where they are where they are. This was a game where they created plenty, but when it mattered, there was a distinct lack of conviction - and quality.
Kamara in the first half should have buried it from close range when Ryan Longman's shot fell into his path, and while Owen Beck made a great block the City winger has to bury that. Chris Bedia, too, lacked conviction in a shot from close range and then appeared to completely freeze inside the box in the second half when Palmer fashioned a chance for him.
That comes with a massive lack of confidence in front of goal and Selles will need to turn it in their favour as quickly as possible because on the current trajectory, City are going down.
Turn around the luck
You make your own luck in football, that's fair, but City have not had any at all season, and that was apparent again here. For 80-odd minutes, Rovers led to an own goal without having a shot at goal. At the other end, all the shots that flew towards Ainsley Pear's goal were blocked away, or deflected over the bar. Not one came close to deflecting into the back of the net, and Selles will be hoping the luck does eventually turn his way.
Build the confidence
We've said it before and it remains an entirely pertinent point; City's squad is devoid of confidence and that's a hangover from the previous regime. Now Selles is in the building and ready to take over, his first job will be instilling some belief in this group of players who will be down on themselves, which is natural given their form.
If he can do that quickly, then there's every chance we'll get a reaction on Wednesday night against Watford in what will be his first game in charge.
Sizeable task ahead
Ultimately, Selles is taking over a team rooted to the foot of the table. It's lost six in a row and hasn't won in the last 11 games, a torrid run for any team at any level, especially one that came so close to the play-offs last season, and wasn't used to losing games of football. Things have flipped now, and City are a team who only know how to lose, which is a mentality he has to change.
This performance was much better and gives Selles something to work with. However, he will know City need results and they need them quickly because being two points adrift at the bottom is not a good place to be, and once that gap to safety starts to grow, it can grow very quickly, especially at this time of the year.
Three points on Wednesday evening are absolutely crucial against a side with just two away wins this season, though they'll face the league's worst home team
