A rugby player was absolutely flattened by a charging deer in remarkable scenes during a match.

Rugby fans may be accustomed to seeing a dog run on to the field of play at grassroots level, and have even witnessed a bull escaping on to the field in the Betfred Super League last year.

Like the bull incident, seeing a deer charge on to the pitch is something of an anomaly, but it occurred last weekend in the Marlow 2s v Rams 3s game, about an hour outside of London.

With play halted, one player fell to the ground appearing to be in pain, but attention quickly turned to an uninvited guest. One fan asked: "What is that?!" as a black figure burst onto screen from the left side of the field.

Another man exclaimed: "That's a f*****g deer!" right as the animal wiped out an unknowing forward on the pitch.

Cue reels of laughter from the crowd as the big man tried to wrap his head around what just happened and get to his feet again.

You can watch the clip below.

Marlow 2s also posted the footage to their Facebook page, including the caption: "DEERY ME. When they told us we were playing Rams we clearly didn’t take it seriously… The best tackle of the weekend."

The game resulted in a 19-17 victory for Rams, with Marlow taking to Instagram to praise the performance from the 2s side.

"The 2XV hosted Rams Centaurs and narrowly edged them out with a fantastic win over exceptionally strong opposition!," they wrote. "In their maiden season in Level 8, the 2s are going from strength to strength and now find themselves sixth and within touching distance of the top three."
