Rushville kicks off outdoor track season

Apr. 11—The Rushville track and field teams are finally in season. Over spring break, Rushville had two individuals compete at the Indiana State Indoor State Meet at the Indianapolis Fairgrounds. Gabby Pavey competed in the pole vault, finishing 15th, while Jenna Lawler placed eighth against two of the best shot putters in the nation with a throw of 36-2.

The Lady Lions and Lions kicked off the outdoor season Saturday with the Raver Relays in Batesville. Rushville's Abbey Hedrick was acknowledged as being a dependable manager in central Indiana.

Highlights of the day was Jacob Schwendeman placing second in the 110 hurdles and Jenna Lawler grabbing third place in the shot competition.

Also to note both boys and girls 4x200 relay teams and both boys and girls sprint medley teams set new school records. The girls DMR team also bettered the school record set just last year as well.

Tuesday, Rushville hosted New Palestine and Connersville. What started out as a perfect night for a track meet ended with no team scores and an incomplete status due to inclement weather.

Prior to the cancellation, the Lions were off to a great start in the field. Boys shot putters Liam Gurley and Carter Barnes grabbing second and fourth. On the track, Jacob Schwendeman out-hurdled everyone in the 110 highs and Chase Woolf sprinted to a second place in the 100.

For the Lady Lions, freshman McKenna Norris placed first in the long jump. Leonie Boyer tied for second in the high jump and freshman Josie Corn was the 1600 race winner. The hurdle tandem of Trisha Morgan and Katie Ripberger snagged some huge points for the Lady Lions by placing second and third in the 300 hurdles, also third and fourth in the 300 hurdles.

Rushville is scheduled to return to the track Thursday for Senior Night.
