Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of Manchester United's next three games before Ruben Amorim officially takes charge of the club, it has been confirmed.

The former striker, who joined Erik ten Hag's coaching staff in the summer, took charge of Wednesday night's 5-2 EFL Cup win over Leicester City, two days after Ten Hag's departure.

United moved swiftly to appoint Amorim and his arrival was confirmed on Friday. However, he won't begin work in England until November 11 before his first game will be on November 24 against Ipswich Town.

Van Nistelrooy will now oversee Sunday's clash with Chelsea before taking charge of Thursday's Europa League game with PAOK and next weekend's fixture with Leicester. Whether the Dutchman stays at the club beyond Amorim's arrival remains unclear.

However, the former United forward confirmed he was "very motivated" to stay at the club. "I decided to come back here for a very important reason that I'm here," he said on Thursday. "I came as an assistant to help the club forward and I'm still very motivated to do so in any capacity.

"As an assistant, and now as an interim manager, and after that I go back to my assistant contract that I have here for this season and next. I'm very motivated to stay here and help the club forward, that's my absolute goal."

There has been no official communication on whether Van Nistelrooy will continue his role as assistant manager when Amroim comes in. However, The Manchester Evening News' recent poll on Amorim, which asked fans questions about the upcoming head coach, shows that the majority of supporters want to see the Dutchman remain at the club.

A whopping 92% of fans who voted think the Portuguese will keep Van Nistelrooy as part of his coaching staff. Want to have your say? Take part in our Amorim poll below.
