Ryan Jack Rangers injury notion rubbished as Steve Clarke makes claim over fitness

Ryan Jack was a surprise inclusion in the provisional Scotland squad after not appearing for Rangers since February.

But Steve Clarke insists the midfielder has been fit for WEEKS and it was Philippe Clement's choice not to play him. Jack has been hampered by injury for much of the season and after coming back for four games around January and February, broke down again and missed the rest of the season.

He did manage a B team appearance in the Glasgow Cup earlier this month but wasn't deemed ready for the first team, returning to the bench for the final day draw with Hearts but not being brought in. But Clarke insists he is in his group and merit and not because of any sort of sympathy.

He said: "Ryan is not in because he’s due a chance - he is in because of what he has done for me before as a player. I understand the qualities Ryan brings to the squad and to the team when I put him on the pitch.

“What he has to do is come into the camp, train well, hopefully I can give him some minutes on the pitch and he has to show everyone he is fit. I know he has been fit at his club for a couple of weeks now. They have chosen not to play him, that is their choice, but Ryan is fit and raring to go.”
