Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively show true colours with amazing gesture to sick little boy
The wish of a nine-year-old boy with cancer has been fulfilled after speaking to Ryan Reynolds in a video call.
An appeal was launched at the end of last month for the Hollywood actor to meet with Riley Bains from Hartlepool.
The youngster is currently fighting cancer and had expressed his desire to come face to face with his Deadpool hero.
The appeal by Micky Day from cancer charity Miles for Men was soon spotted by Reynolds himself following a post on X, formerly Twitter, by BBC Radio Tees.
Riley has now spoken to his idol on a video call in which the actor invited him for an in-person meet-up at his club Wrexham, promising to make it "one of the best days of his life".
In the heart-warming footage, Reynolds tells the star-struck youngster he is "so excited" to meet him and compliments him on his Deadpool vs Wolverine t-shirt.
There was also a surprise appearance from Reynolds' wife Blake Liveley, who asked Riley which character he prefers.
Speaking to the BBC, Riley’s mum, Sarah, said: "It was incredible that they took so much time out of their busy day to make one little boy feel special."
Last year, Riley was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, and had to have the lower part of his left leg amputated before undergoing chemotherapy.
He is now receiving further treatment after his family were told earlier this year that the disease had returned and spread.
It's not the first time Reynolds has helped to fulfil a young fan's wish. In September, he surprised an eight-year-old boy called Nash by visiting him at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children in the US, where he was being treated for a rare form of cancer.
