Salisbury Men’s 1s hosted Alton, the game started, and it was one-way traffic in the favour of Salisbury, a few chances were created and a corner won but with little outcome, writes Matt Salmon.

A few minutes later, Mac Stevenson found the net with a thunderbolt into the bottom, making it 1-0.

It wasn’t long before Salisbury found the net for a second time through Kynon Griffith-McCann.

A lapse in concentration for Salisbury ended up in Alton clawing a goal back to make it 2-1 with a well-worked corner routine.

The first teams took four points out of six and there were cup wins (Image: Matt Salmon) Shortly after, Mark Antrobus played a reverse ball to put Freddie Shardlow in, who then made a lovely pass to Kynon, who scored.

The second half started badly when a few poor passes from Salisbury put Alton through to make it 3-2, and it was game on.

It was Salisbury who picked up the pace and with a beautiful sweeping passing move between Stevenson, Chris Pearl and Oscar Barnes, which was finally converted by Kynon, sealing his second hat-trick of the season and 10th goal of the season.

Alton pushed and converted to make it 4-3. Stevenson then ran into the D and crunched a near post shot for his 2nd of the game. 5-3 in Salisbury’s favour and that’s how it ended.

The Ladies 1’s travelled to Maidenhead, who sit just below them in the table, knowing they had to get something from the game.

Salisbury pressed high to put the opposition under pressure right from the start.

Dictating the pace of the game, dominating possession, and creating chances, Salisbury’s hard work was rewarded when Issy Viant made it to the back line, finding Sophie Hayakawa in the D, to slot home her first goal for the 1s.

Despite numerous chances, Salisbury were unable to capitalise and get a vital 2nd goal going into half-time.

The second half saw a switch, with Maidenhead coming out hard and fast and dominating play.

Salisbury reverted to bad habits, trying to hit through players, rather than being patient with the build-up.

This resulted in Maidenhead scoring the equaliser and a quick second to put them ahead.

Goalkeeper Louise Davidson kept Salisbury in with a fighting chance and buoyed by this, Salisbury rallied and started creating their own chances.

Grace Leggett scored the equaliser on her debut for the first team.

Salisbury pushed hard for the remainder of the game but sadly couldn’t find the net.

Having to settle for a point and a 2-2 draw, Salisbury now sit 8th in the table.

Elsewhere, Salisbury hockey players Nic George and Victoria Earl represented the Army in the Women’s and Women’s Masters teams respectively.

Playing at the UK Armed Forces inter-service Indoor tournament, both were able to overcome the RAF and the Navy to take the titles.
