Schroeder, Springmeyer to lead Pirates on the course

Mar. 31—GREENSBURG — Last season, the Pirates went 54-13 on the golf season. Greensburg finished second in the EIAC with a solid team score of 318 and finished fourth at the sectional, missing the regional by just two strokes.

Two Pirates return with a tone of varsity experience to help guide the Pirate ship in 2024.

Junior Colten Schroeder was the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference MVP last season. Schroeder is a two-year player for the Pirates and won the Batesville Invitational last year and advance individually to the regional.

Senior Hunter Springmeyer is a 3-year varsity golfer for the Pirates.

In the initial meeting for the golf season, Coach Bryce Mize had nine players attend. Newcomers looking to make an impact this year include junior Kaden Acton, junior Brant Acra and sophomore Reece Chapman.

"All three, as well as Cooper Williams (senior) return from the JV team last year and look to contribute right away as varsity golfers this season," Coach Mize said. "Logan Simpson (freshman) will also be in that group hoping to crack the top 5."

"We have a lot of newcomers to our varsity lineup this season, so we're going to be a little bit inexperienced," Coach Mize said. "However, as the season goes along, I hope to see the guys gain some confidence and find a rhythm."

"We definitely hope to be competitive in our conference and at sectional as we are most years. Individually, look for Colten Schroeder and Hunter Springmeyer to compete strongly in tournaments and be some of the top golfers in our conference and surrounding area," Coach Mize added.
