Scott McTominay has been crowned as the 'best number eight' in Italy by Lazio hero Hernanes.

The Scotland star has made a lighting-fast start with Napoli in Serie A, scoring three goals in his first 10 appearances to help Antonio Conte's men launch an assault on the Scudetto. McTominay netted in the San Siro against Inter before the international break and will hope to play a starring role in the clash with Roma on Sunday evening as Napoli look to reclaim top spot with three points.

And ahead of the game, the 27-year-old has been given a glowing appraisal by Brazilian Hernanes, who was part of the Lazio side that lifted the Coppa Italia in 2013 and later picked up a Serie A winner's medal with Juventus. Speaking to sportitalia, he said: "The Napoli one, McTominay. I saw him play live and I liked him a lot.

"He is elegant, then he sees the goal, because that's what he is: the number 8 must know a bit of everything. You have to mark, you have to set up the actions, but you have to see the goal and he sees it.

"And then as a style of play I like it. I also like Barella but it's already a different style, he's very dynamic, very annoying, he marks very well. But I like him more in the style of Koopmeiners and McTominay".
