SCOTT Parker felt his Burnley team deserved to beat Middlesbrough on Friday night.

Parker also gave his verdict on the Clarets' first half leveller, pointing to Seny Dieng's "high" position but admitting he thinks the weather played a "big part" in Connor Roberts' looping effort finding the net.

Roberts' strike cancelled out Anfernee Dijksteel's 13th minute opener for Boro.Parker was delighted with his side's display in the first half, particularly the response to falling behind, but felt the Clarets let the game open up after the break, when Boro had a string of chances to win the game.

Despite Boro missing the best of the second half opportunities, Parker felt the visitors could have had no complaints had Burnley picked up all three points.

He said: “Probably not satisfied because I thought we were worthy of three points tonight. Conditions definitely played a large factor in thee game, for both teams really. The wind and the rain, it was tough. My general assessment over the course of the whole game: I thought first half we were superb. They score a goal against the run of play and probably down to us a bit - we gifted that in the way we positioned ourselves.

"But the reaction that got - it got a reaction that was nothing short of superb. We knocked on the door for large parts of the first half and were well worthy of our goal. It was a very, very good goal from Connor.

"Second half, it ebbed and flowed a bit and they were a threat on counters which we had to be aware of. We probably made some poor decisions when the game became a bit open. We maybe could have executed it better. Overall, I’m pleased with tonight’s performance."

Boro were pegged back after Roberts caught Dieng out with a looping shot.

Parker said: “Connor Roberts is an international player who brings loads of experience and was quality. He’s been quality all season and that was a great moment for him. The weather probably plays a big part in it.

"The goalkeeper’s position was high. I’ve not looked at it back, but maybe the conditions have had an impact on that.

"The flight of the ball was out all night. When it goes up in the air you just don’t knw where it’s going to land and that affects the judgement of the players. Corners, set plays, the general flight of the ball, it’s something the players now can anticipate usually. It’s probably fair to say the weather had a huge impact."
