Selena Gomez can't help but smile when she's around her friend and costar Steve Martin!

The Only Murders in the Building star showed up Martin on Friday as he celebrated the premiere of STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces in New York City. The costars had huge smiles on their faces as they posed for pictures together on the red carpet.

As the duo doubled over with laughter, Gomez, 31, was seen wearing a black, off-the-shoulder gown lined with matching black bows while Martin, 78, was fashioned in a blue suit, a light blue button down and a grey tie.

This isn't the first time Gomez has supported Martin and Martin Short, her two OMITB costars.

In February, the "Love On" singer opened up about how the trio's bond has transcended off-screen while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

"Our dynamic [on-screen] is actually very truthful in a way," Gomez told Jimmy Kimmel. "They're hilarious. Everything I do with them is just a fun experience."

The Wizards Of Waverly Place star added that she was aware of some of the actors' work before OMITB began, including Martin's hit movie Father of The Bride and Short's character Jiminy Glick from the shows Primetime Glick and The Martin Short Show.

"They tell me the craziest stories about just how different life was back then and it seemed a lot less chaotic than it is now," she laughed.

Last month, PEOPLE exclusively debuted the first trailer for STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces. The documentary, directed and produved by Morgan Neville, features new interviews and sheds insight into Martin's illustrious standup and film career.

An official synopsis for STEVE! (martin) explained that the film "dives into his extraordinary story from two distinct points of view, with companion documentaries that feature never-before-seen footage and raw insights into Steve’s personal and professional trials and triumphs."

The first, titled "Then," chronicles Martin's "early struggles and meteoric rise to revolutionize standup before walking away at 35." And the second, "Now" focuses on "the present day, with Steve Martin in the golden years of his career, retracing the transformation that led to happiness in his art and personal life."

On Gomez's Instagram Story Friday following the documentary's premiere, she celebrated her friend and costar, writing, “It pains me to know how many people may not know truly about Steve’s life. He’s truly an icon and tried and never gave up … my dear friend you are extraordinary."
