'Set plays cost us': Fleetwood Town boss on FA Cup exit at former club Reading
Fleetwood Town manager Charlie Adam was left 'bitterly disappointed' that his side exited the FA Cup at Reading on Saturday, believing 'set plays proved costly.'
The former Royal, who ended his playing days in England with a season in Berkshire, returned to the Select Car Leasing Stadium for the first time since departing.
Second half goals from Tyler Bindon and Mipo Odubeko did the damage, setting up a second round tie with non-league Harborough Town.
Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire after the match, Adam said: "[It is] bitterly disappointing. We were coming away from home, they’re doing well in the league and are a good side with good players and a very good coach. Disappointed to lose the game- it’s a long way for our supporters to travel. Disappointed we are going out.
"I thought we contained them, but ultimately two set plays cost us. It doesn’t matter what level you are, if you switch off and don’t defend your box well then you get punished and we did today. They had a lot of the ball and good patterns, but they never really opened us up. We caused our own problems with set plays."
Reading travel to Cheltenham Town in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy on Tuesday before returning to League One action at Stevenage on Saturday.
