Reading have seven possible opponents in the Round of 32 of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy following their 3-0 win over Newport County on Tuesday.

Harvey Knibbs netted a brace and Jayden Wareham found the net in a 'winner takes all' tie against the League Two Exiles.

West Ham Under-21s were beaten earlier in the season while last week the Royals lost 1-0 at Cheltenham Town, meaning Reading were only able to qualify as second place.

This is in stark contrast to last season in which Ruben Selles' side progressed a league leaders with a 100 per cent record, including a historic 9-0 win at Exeter City.

Last season, Charlton Athletic were beaten on penalties in the Round of 32 before Brighton and Hove Albion Under-21s knocked Reading out in the Last 16 phase on penalties at the AMEX Stadium.

Fixtures are due to take place in the midweek commencing December 9, with the draw date yet to be confirmed.

Regionalised, there are seven possible opponents Reading could face before Christmas.

  • Exeter City

  • Burton Albion

  • Colchester United

  • Peterborough United

  • Charlton Athletic

  • Wycombe Wanderers

  • Walsall

Posh, who host the Royals in League One upon the return from the international break, beat Wycombe Wanderers in the final last season at Wembley Stadium.
