Daniel Farke made his feelings quite clear about signing players outside of the transfer window. Highlighting the issues with picking up a free agent who has not had a proper pre-season, someone not match fit and a player who would come in and unlikely be able to improve on what he already had, it was going to take a special personality to make Farke change his mind, injury concerns or not.

Josuha Guilavogui managed to do just that and it's as much about the character Leeds are bringing into their dressing room as it is what he will offer on the pitch, given when everyone is fit he's unlikely to see a great deal of game time.

If Leeds fans need any sort of reassurance of the type of player the club have brought in, they need only look at a message from one of his former sides, after news of his signing at Leeds was confirmed. The 34-year-old defensive midfielder may have ended last season at Mainz, but it was at Vfl Wolfsburg where the former French international spent most of his career.

Nine years at Wolfsburg and 265 games played ensured Guilavogui departed the club with a terrific reputation, or legendary status even, given the message from his former side. When Leeds took to X (Twitter) to confirm the signing, Wolfsburg responded with "Please take good care of our legend."

The fact Guilavogui is held in the regard he is, both on the terraces of the German club and within the boardroom and training ground, speaks volumes of his attitude and personality, key ingredients which ensured Farke was keen to get a deal done to bring him into the club.
