Sha'Carri Richardson silvers in 100m final: Social reactions to star's first Olympic medal

Sha'Carri Richardson's quest for her first Olympic medal came to fruition on Saturday, as she finished with a silver medal in wet, rainy conditions in the women's 100-meter final in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

She fell just shy of gold, with Saint Lucia's Julien Alfred sprinting to victory. Alfred, who also beat Richardson in the semifinal earlier in the day, finished the race in 10.72 seconds. Richardson finished with a time of 10.87.

Richardson was competing in her first Olympic race, and earned her first medal after being disqualified ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. USA's Melissa Jefferson finished third, earning bronze and putting two Americans on the podium for the event.

Alfred won the first medal in the history of Saint Lucia, and was greeted by Richardson following the win, showing great sportsmanship despite the heated competition.
