Television presenter Richard Keys has launched a bizarre Manchester United rant, claiming that someone at the club 'should be fired'.

Keys, who presents BeIN Sports' coverage, has suggested that new head coach Ruben Amorim has 'nothing' to work with as he settles in for his first week in charge after replacing Erik ten Hag.

The Sporting CP manager was lured to the Premier League and has been tasked with steering United up the table, as they sit in the bottom half. Ruud van Nistelrooy had an unbeaten stint in temporary charge and guided United to within four points of the Champions League places.

In a post on X, Keys described the decision to extend Ten Hag's spell at Old Trafford as a "cataclysmic mistake". He said: "Every briefing coming out of OT underlines what a cataclysmic mistake it was keeping ten Toast (sic) last summer.

"They let him spend another £200m+ on rubbish & now there’s nothing for Amorim. Somebody in the brains trust should be fired. There’s nothing for Amorim to work with."

United were busy in the summer transfer window and welcomed an array of talent, with Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte penning terms at Old Trafford. Despite scoring on his debut, Zirkzee has endured a difficult start to life in the Premier League, while Leny Yoro has yet to make a competitive appearance after suffering a foot injury.

Former Bayern Munich duo De Ligt and Mazraoui have had positive starts, however, more so the Moroccan full-back who is charting highly in his early United career.

Amorim will have just over a month to work with his current squad before the January transfer window opens. The 39-year-old's tenure officially kicks off on Sunday when they travel to Ipswich Town (4:30pm kick-off) with Kieran McKenna's side buoyant on the back of their 2-1 win away at Tottenham Hotspur, on the eve of the international break.
