JOE FELIX felt that York City’s ability to contest against Sky Bet League One opposition showed how far the football club has come in such a short space of time.

After York had succumbed to two goals with Luke Leahy and Gideon Kodua scoring early on for Wycombe Wanderers, Tyrese Sinclair halved the deficit with a fantastic curling strike that beat Shamal George.

Wycombe quickly established their two goal advantage in the second-half through a Leahy free-kick, before Felix opened his account for City with a late strike.

Felix was pleased with the efforts of the players and the challenge that Wycombe posed, and credited the character shown by his teammates to stay in close competition with a side occupying the automatic promotion spots in League One.

“Everyone is kind of disappointed, but that just shows you the sign of a good team,” Felix enthused.

“To go so close against probably one of the best teams in League One, it just shows how far the club has come.

“We’ve got to look at the positives and try to build on [them], and hopefully in the next game we can take them all in there.

“It was a tough game, they made loads of forward runs which was causing us a few problems.

“At the same time, we didn’t give up and kept going until the end.

“I’m just really happy that we showed character and we just have to keep pushing on and building on that now.”

Felix’s stoppage-time strike inflicted pressure on Wycombe after a low left-footed effort nestled into George’s bottom left corner, with it being the defender’s first goal in a York shirt.

He was hoping that the ball would drop to him after City hammered the Wycombe goal in the dying moments, admitting that he was feeling confident in front of goal after witness a ‘proud moment’ of scoring in front of his family.

“I’m really happy, especially to get it in front of my family, it’s a proud moment for me.

“I just want to keep going, I’m not satisfied and I’m hungry for more, so I want to keep on building and pushing on from here.

“I was hoping it would fall to me, because I was feeling really confident in front of goal today.

“At the end of the day, it just wasn’t meant to be.

“Hopefully in the next game we can carry on building and I can score again.”

Felix is one of just two players remaining to have not missed a minute of football this season, along with captain Callum Howe.

The 25-year-old has played at in the defence, in the midfield and even in the attack at times on the wing, with Felix joking that Adam Hinshelwood’s next stroke of genius would be to put him in the goalkeeping position.

“I’m feeling good, I just want to go out there and give my all.

“I’m just really happy to be out there and giving my all, I will run all over the pitch and wherever the gaffer wants me to play, I’m just happy to be out on the pitch.

“I will give my all for this club and for everyone, but for my team especially.

“[On playing as a goalkeeper] You never know, the gaffer is a genius!

“I want to carry on and take it game from game, so hopefully we can push from the next game.”

Following their Emirates FA Cup exit, York’s attention will turn back to the Vanarama National League, where they currently hold top position in the fifth tier.

City will welcome Hartlepool United on Saturday, November 9 (12.30pm) with a bumper attendance expected at the LNER Community Stadium of over 8,000.

Felix is relishing the opportunity to play in front of a bigger crowd, and hopes to be able to entertain the home supporters.

“I’m really looking forward to it, I mean I am looking forward to every single game.

“I just want to get out there and play and the fans have been incredible from the start to the end.

“I can’t thank them enough, we want to carry on building and obviously helping them to enjoy the experience.

“The more they support us, the more we can give for them, so we’re just grateful that they support us so well.

“It’s amazing, but at the same time those are the games that we want to play, in front of the big crowds.

“We want to entertain our fans especially, so we’re all really looking forward to it.

“We’ll have a good week of training and I’m sure that the gaffer will be raring to go.”
