Shrewsbury Town confirm new manager ahead of Birmingham City clash
Shrewsbury Town have confirmed the appointment of Gareth Ainsworth as their new head coach. The 51-year-old takes the reins following Paul Hurst's exit earlier in the month, with Shrewsbury currently propping up the table in League One.
Ainsworth makes his return to management after a year away from the game since his departure from QPR last October, having previously enjoyed a lengthy spell at Wycombe. His first game in charge will be against Birmingham City when they visit the Croud Meadow a week on Saturday in a 12.30pm kick-off.
Micky Moore, Shrewsbury’s director of football, expressed his excitement on the club's official website: "I’m delighted to welcome Gareth and Richard (Dobson) to the football club.

"I think it is a massive coup for Shrewsbury to have them here.. I’ve known Gareth for a long time. He was the standout candidate and he is someone I have always admired for the outstanding work he did at Wycombe.
"He brings to this football club an enthusiasm and a wealth of knowledge having managed more than 150 games in League One. He is exactly what we need. I’m sure, in time, we will be able to build a football club that will really make the town and our supporters proud."
Blues have already visited Shrewsbury twice in the last few months, first in pre-season when they won 2-0 and more recently in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy when they registered a 4-0 victory.
